Dear Colleagues,
It is with great sadness we are to announce the death of our Director General, Brian W McMillan. Brian passed in the early hours of Thursday 4th June 2020 with his loving family by his side.
We are truly devastated by this news, as we are sure you will be too. Those of you who knew Brian personally will agree that his impact on us all, as well as our industry, is immeasurable. He leaves behind a legacy which the Society’s team, our members, and our partners are now responsible for carrying on in which we give his family the assurance of doing so.
We invite anyone who wishes to express their condolences to do so and ask that you please respect the privacy of Brian’s family at this difficult time.

Very sad news. Brian will missed not only by SWW members but by the wider community. A font of knowledge. My thoughts are with Brian’s family.

On behalf of all of us at PreceptsGroup Singapore, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Brian’s family and his colleagues at SWW. We will all miss him. Brian will always be remembered fondly with the legacy that he’s left behind.
On a personal note, I will always treasure the memories of my trip to Lincoln in 2018 when Brian hosted me. He was a good and generous person. I had the benefit of his warm friendship for about a decade.
Farewell Brian,
Chiwi Lee

I knew Brian from when he took over the Society way back in the day. We spent many long nights in the bar at many SWW Conferences often trying to see who would give way first and go to bed!! Never a good thing to do against an ex-matelot!
He even asked be to be Chair of the Senior Council, which I was honoured to accept.
No one could doubt his passion for the role he took on and the Society is a fantastic legacy to his hard work and determination.
As we say in the Royal Navy, “A fair wind and a following sea Brian, RIP”
