And so begins another year at The Society of Will Writers.
With 2025 now behind us, I find myself reflecting on what felt like one of the most “normal” years in my almost ten years with the SWW. With everything happening around us outside of our profession in recent times, the lack of major drama or immediate crises internally was a welcome change of pace.
That isn’t to say it was a quiet year for the profession or the SWW though. The Law Commission’s proposals for Wills law reform remained a significant talking point, and I anticipate this will continue to be one of the most discussed topics throughout 2026. As I hope you’ve come to expect from us by now, the SWW will be following every development closely to ensure our members are informed and represented.
What’s in Store for 2026?
We have a busy year ahead, with several major projects designed to support your practice and professional growth:
- The SWW Conference: We are thrilled to announce that this year’s event will be headlined by the incomparable Professor Lesley King. We are hard at work finalising the rest of the agenda, sponsorships and activities for the event, and you can expect plenty more details to follow very soon.
- The College of Will Writing: We are preparing to launch a brand-new College website. Alongside the new digital home for all things training, we will be introducing a fresh suite of courses from both our established tutors and some exciting new voices to help you stay at the top of your game.
- Regional Group Raffle: To encourage community engagement, we are launching a new initiative where CPD points = Prizes. It’s our way of rewarding those who stay active within their regional groups and committed to their professional development. For full details click here, or speak with your regional chair.
- Enhanced Membership Benefits: Value for money remains a core priority. We are continually exploring new partnerships and benefits to add to your membership package, and we expect to announce several expansions to these offerings throughout the year.
A Personal Milestone
On a more personal note, my perspective has shifted slightly as we head into this new year. Just before Christmas, my wife and I welcomed our first child into the world. Naturally, my focus over the last few weeks has been on supporting my family as we navigate this new chapter.
However, entering parenthood has served as a stark, firsthand reminder of why the work we do is so vital. It has certainly put my personal estate planning at the top of my own domestic to-do list! It reinforces the peace of mind we provide to families every day, knowing that no matter what the future holds, their loved ones are protected.
As the SWW’s MD, I advocate every day for the work that our members do. Your services are absolutely vital, and I know from speaking with you all so regularly just how valued you are by your clients. Thank you for all that you do for the SWW and consumers alike. Let’s keep up the good work together.
I look forward to another year of growth and success alongside all of you.
Anthony
