Interesting to see that Dignity looks like it might be taken into private equity ownership by a consortium led by Peter Wood, the man who founded Direct Line insurance.
If that goes through we’ll probably see a much more positive (perhaps even aggressive) approach to the marketing of prepaid funeral plans……..

I – thankfully – wasn’t affected by the Safe Hands debacle. I worked with Dignity as a provider.
Funeral plans remain a useful thing for people to do – in my opinion more for the benefit they provide in terms of releasing next of kin from the process they have to go through when arranging a funeral than for the financial advantages.
I don’t ‘offer’ funeral plans to clients.I don’t think I’m allowed to do so being neither FCA registered nor an authorised agent of a provider.
I suggest that clients might consider them and explain how there are many potential providers out there for them to choose from but I don’t recommend any particular provider – just tell the client to make sure that if they decide to put a plan in place that they use a provider that is FCA registered.
