IDR Law Protect

Accessible 24/7 for Professional Will Writers

IDR Law Protect is an innovative Legal Tech Suite to help those drafting and making wills minimise the risk of them being the subject of later claims on death.

Brought to you by IDR Law, the only law firm in the UK that deals solely with the resolution of disputes concerning wills, we are in a unique position to gather data and know how and when claims commonly arise and what could have been done to minimise the risk of those claims in life.

The IDR Law Protect services can all be used as stand-alone services and are affordable, accessible and easy to use protection for will drafters and their will clients alike – a win:win solution to protect both against later family disharmony, dispute and potential negligence and cost claims.

The services are there to enable you as the Will Writer to effectively assess the risk of future claims on the estate and wealth of your clients and to then take simple positive steps to reduce those risks for the benefit of both you and your clients.

The Research

Recent webinars and surveys have asked hundreds of professional will writers about what they consider presents the most risk to both them and their clients when preparing a will. The results demonstrated quite clearly that much of the concern lay around assessing familial risk and the more common capacity concerns.

Common risk factors - our survey says:

Initially we wanted to understand how the Will Writer would rank potential ‘risks’ faced when taking initial instructions from a client.

We provided a list of risk factors for them to rank in order of magnitude and this is what we found.

This part of the research looks at how a professional navigates obtaining a capacity report if there is a concern there may be a later capacity issue challenge.

We asked those surveyed to rank the considerations on the basis of the biggest practical worry/problem at the top and the one of least concern at the bottom.

With 1 in 3 now relying on inheritance to fund retirement or discharge debt, many expectant beneficiaries have no Plan B if they don’t receive what they are relying on getting. We are seeing rising volumes of claims and have designed the IDR Law Protect suite of protective services to face into this problem directly! Will writing is no longer about just giving effect to testamentary wishes – it is about advising and minimising the risk of claims and disputes on death. Larke has been designed with this fundamental goal in mind.
